We’re hiring a Trainee!

Are you a young person from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background? Do you want to make a real difference for Scotland’s seas?

We’re offering a unique paid traineeship designed to support you in gaining valuable skills and experience, while helping us ensure young voices are at the heart of marine policymaking.

As a Young Sea Changers Trainee, you’ll help us develop the Youth Manifesto for Scotland’s Seas, making sure decision-makers hear directly from young people about the future of Scotland’s marine environment. You’ll also play a key role in planning our annual Community Gathering where we bring together young marine advocates from across Scotland.

We’re committed to supporting your growth to build experience and skills for future employment. From day one, you’ll have:

  • A dedicated mentor to guide you through the traineeship

  • Access to training, networking, and personal development opportunities

  • A welcoming, inclusive environment where your ideas are valued and your voice matters

This traineeship is part of our commitment to tackling the lack of racial diversity in the marine sector. We know that accessible, entry-level opportunities are essential to building a fairer and more inclusive future—and we’re proud to offer this role exclusively to a young person aged 18–25 from a Black, Asian, or other minority ethnic background living in Scotland. You’ll ideally have no or limited (i.e less than 2-years) experience in the sector already.

If you’re ready to bring your passion, creativity, and energy to a team that’s working to champion youth voices for the future for Scotland’s seas, we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in the development of the Youth Manifesto for Scotland’s Seas, including analysing and collating data received as part of our online survey & workshops

  • Contribute to the organisation and delivery of our Community Gathering on 6th September in Glasgow, including helping with programme planning, event promotion & logistics on the day.

  • Stay updated on marine policy developments and regularly share relevant updates with the team.

What We Offer:

  • The Real Living Wage

  • A flexible work pattern between Mon-Thurs

  • A small training stipend to support you to access opportunities

  • One-to-one career support plus facilitated connections with experts in the marine conservation and policy sector.

If you’re someone who want to make a difference and has a passion for our marine environment, we encourage you to apply.

Please read the full role description and information on how to apply HERE, or contact us for a copy.

The deadline is 23rd June 2025.

Note that we welcome applicants who may not possess all the criteria but who are passionate and believe they would be a strong fit for the role.
